Backhouse Construction & Landscaping renewed an old soakaway and added a channel against the house. They tied in downpipes and set covers level to the patio.
First downpour and there was no shiny lake by the doors. The hallway has finally lost that damp whiff. Simple engineering done properly.

Dan tackled a tricky retaining wall beside our neighbour’s hedge. He avoided roots, stepped the wall neatly and added weep holes with drainage stone behind.
He ran a water test before leaving which gave us confidence. The bank hasn’t moved a millimetre since and mowing near the edge no longer fills me with dread.

Backhouse Construction & Landscaping prepared access for a new driveway. Soil out, type 1 in, levels checked and drainage set.
The front finally sheds water instead of holding puddles.

Dan turned up early with a tape, laser and that steady way of explaining things so you actually understand them. He walked me through falls, footing depths and where the services run.
Trenches were braced, rebar tied properly and the pour finished flat as glass. Spoil stayed on boards, neighbours kept access and the kerb was washed every afternoon. He sent progress photos for the file too. It’s the sort of groundwork you stop thinking about because it’s been done right. Very reassuring.

Dan handled a retaining wall beside a shared boundary with diplomacy. He got both sides to agree height, stepped it neatly and included weep holes so pressure doesn’t build.
He compacted backfill properly and cleaned the block faces as he went. The lawn meets the edge without a wobble now. It reads calm and sturdy, which is exactly what we needed.

We needed a slab for a heavy garden room plus a retaining nib to hold the bank. Backhouse Construction & Landscaping set shuttering true, mesh on proper chairs and finished with a tidy arris so water sheds instead of sulking along the edge.
The little wall has weep holes and a clean face ready for cladding. They staged deliveries sensibly so the street never blocked. It looks simple on the surface because the hard thinking went in underneath.

Dan set levels so rain runs from the house to the new channel. Simple fix that’s made winter less stressful already.

Dan marked levels with a laser and explained what the inspector would look for. Footings dug, rebar tied neatly, pour went smooth.
Felt in safe hands from the first chat.

Dan explained falls with string, then regraded to a discreet soakaway. First storm since and the patio stayed dry.
Simple logic done well.

Backhouse Construction & Landscaping dug for a new resin drive while repairing a fractured clay pipe they found on day one. Both jobs ran together without stepping on each other.
Pipe bedded in sand, warning tape laid, covers set flush. The base looks bulletproof and the front now sheds water to the channel as designed. The inspector liked what he saw.

Backhouse Construction & Landscaping formed a retaining wall for our banked lawn. Footings were square, blocks plumb, weep holes spaced right.
They backfilled with drainage stone and trimmed the edge so mowing stays simple. It looks like it has always belonged there and the soil finally stays where it should through a storm.

Backhouse Construction & Landscaping managed excavation, drainage and concrete for our kitchen extension. Spoil moved cleanly, trenches boxed smartly and steel set without fuss.
Inspector signed off, pour followed the same afternoon and the finish came up level to the millimetre. They swept the road, kept neighbours informed and left a site that looked organised, not chaotic.
